How goals work

Goals are tracked only after experiment tracking has started. For tracking to begin, the visitor must first match the defined Audience.

Once a visitor qualifies for the Audience, goals can be recorded on any page of your website — not just the page where the variation is shown.

This means you can, for example, create a goal that is triggered on a completely different page (such as a checkout or thank-you page). As long as the visitor matched the Audience at some point, the tracking system will continue to register goals whenever the goal conditions are met.

info

On the results page for the experiment, each goal is counted in a binary way: either triggered (1) or not triggered (0) for a given visitor. Multiple goal triggers by the same visitor still count as a single conversion. This prevents results from being skewed by "happy" visitors who trigger a goal multiple times within the same variation.
