Verify Audience
The Audience is one of the most important settings in your experiment. It determines which visitors are included in the test and where on your site the variation changes will be applied.
Getting the Audience right is crucial for two main reasons:
- Correct placement of changes: You only want your variation changes to run on the intended page(s). If they execute on the wrong page, it can cause unexpected issues.
- Accurate results: Only visitors who are actually exposed to your changes (or the original version) should be included in the experiment results. This ensures your data reflects real user impact.
To verify your setup, use the Preview feature. Open a Preview from the Editor and navigate through your site. Check that Audience evaluates to true (green) on the pages where changes should appear, and false (red) where they should not.
Audience evaluation summary
Click Audience: true/false in the Preview bar to open the Audience evaluation details. The summary at the top shows the current visitor's overall qualification status:

| Evaluating visitor qualification | One or more required condition groups are still waiting to be evaluated. The summary shows how many groups have been evaluated so far. |
| Visitor qualifies for this experiment | The visitor satisfies the Audience's condition-group logic. |
| Visitor does not qualify for this experiment | The visitor does not satisfy the Audience's condition-group logic. |
The badges below the status show how many condition groups currently match. When the Audience contains multiple groups, a second badge identifies the overall logic as AND or OR:
- With AND logic, every condition group must match. A failed group means the visitor does not qualify.
- With OR logic, at least one condition group must match. A matching group means the visitor qualifies.
The overall result can become known before every group has finished evaluating. For example, one failed group is enough to fail an AND Audience, while one matching group is enough to satisfy an OR Audience.
Review individual conditions
Below the overall summary, Condition breakdown shows each group and rule:
- A group is marked Matched, Not matched, or Waiting.
- Each rule is marked True, False, or Waiting.
- The label on each group shows whether ALL rules or ANY rule must match within that group.
- The explanation at the bottom describes why the visitor currently qualifies or does not qualify.
Keep the details open while navigating or changing the page state. The summary and condition results update as the Audience is reevaluated.
Test pages and interactions that should both include and exclude the visitor. This confirms that each rule, each condition group, and the overall Audience logic behave as intended.
